iPhone Push Notification Service (APNS)

Apple Inc has created a service called Apple Push Notification which was launched on June 17th June, 2009 along with Apple’s new Operating System iOS 3.0. What does is it avails push technology via an Open Internet Protocol connection so that it can push forth the server notification of 3rd party apps to our Apple devices; these notifications may indulge push alert, sounds or badges.

Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) allows the apps in your Apple Devices to keep you up-to-date on the functions that takes place within apps, even if they are closed.You will be socially connected, even if you don’t possess the appropriate app. You can use these services only if you are a registered iPhone owner. This is one of the few basic requirements of using this service.

How to turn on APNS:-
  • Install the app which works with APNS in Apple iPhone for activating it.
  • Go to Settings on the Home screen of your Apple iPhone device (if you haven’t changed it).
  • In the Settings option, search for the Notifications option, Change it to “ON”.
  • As soon as turn it on, Your Apple iPhone will recognize all the applications that have push notifications. You can turn off the notifications of all the unwanted applications.
  • Many applications may possess several ways of triggering the notifications
  • Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) has 3 types of notifications:-


1) Text Alert (Number Icon – which shows how many notifications you got)

2) Sound Alert (Application Icon – which application has got notifications, E.g.:- Whatsapp)

3) Badge Alert (Mail Icon – it shows how many mails or SMS you have received)

Requirements for activating APNS:-

You need have an Apple device which supports APNS. It should have iOS 3.0 or Higher and undoubtedly an active internet connection. It works with iPads, iPhones & iPods (Touch Version).
